Stripe or PayPal Holding Your Funds? What to Do Before a Payment Processor Freezes Your Money
It's the Friday after your biggest launch ever. You log in to check your balance, and every sale is there, exactly as it came in. But a huge chunk of the money says "unavailable," and your ad bill and your contractors get paid on Monday. Nobody stole anything. You didn't do anything wrong. Your payment processor just put a hold on your funds.
It doesn't sound like a fire alarm. It sounds like a dashboard banner: "Your account is under review." The usual triggers are ordinary: a launch spike (you normally do $5,000 a month and just did $40,000 in two days), a brand-new account the processor doesn't know yet, a busy week of refunds and disputes, or a mismatch between what you signed up to sell ($27 ebook) and what you're selling now ($5,000 mastermind). To a processor, success looks like a change in pattern. Stripe, PayPal, Square, Kajabi Payments: they're not just pipes into your business, they're risk managers.
What I want you to do instead of firing off an angry ticket or posting "Stripe stole my money" to 10,000 entrepreneurial friends: read exactly what they're asking for, send it complete the first time, and keep selling wherever you still can. Then build the fire extinguisher before the fire: a 30 to 60 day cash buffer, your business documents in one clearly named folder, a heads-up to your processor before a big launch (if they offer one), clear purchase terms at checkout, and a second processor set up and verified on a calm Tuesday.
